Obituary for Mercy Jane Victor (Folkertsma)

Mercy Victor, age 64, was called to heaven from her home in Kingwood, TX, just before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016. The daughter of Fred and Grace Folkertsma, she was born in Grand Rapids, MI. At age two her family moved to southern California. While attending Elim Bible Institute in upstate New York, she met the man she believed would be her future husband. Tom finally agreed and they were married on Memorial Day, May 28th, 1973, the day after their graduation from Elim.

On their journey together they have lived in the Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Virginia Beach, and New York Metro Areas before moving to their final residence of Kingwood, TX, in 1997.

Mercy was a devoted wife and mother, taught women’s Bible studies, established pastor’s wives fellowships and mentored prayer leaders. She became passionate for the spiritual life of her grandchildren. She also partnered with her husband in the work of the Great Commission Coalition, their global mission assignment over the last 17 years.

Mercy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom; her son Brian, his wife Jennifer and their children, Hannah, age 9 and Noah, age 7, from Atascocita, TX; her daughter Carrie, her husband John and their children, Liam, age 11, Hailey, age 8, and Elsie, age 4, from Windsor, CO; her brother, Melvin Folkersma and his wife, Paulette from Mentone, CA.

The family is deeply grateful for the very special care Mercy received from her many doctors and medical professionals. They are also overwhelmed by the many prayers and well wishes received from family, special friends; and ministry colleagues from around the world.

A celebration of the life of Mercy Victor will take place on Wednesday,
June 8 at Humble Area’s First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m.
