Obituary for Nadine Thames (Adams)

Willie Nadine Thames passed into eternity on February 8, 2017 where she is now resting in the arms of Jesus. First to greet her there was her beloved husband of 41 years, Olcy Paul Thames followed by her Mother and Dad, Willie and Allena Adams, brothers Rex and Munsy, sisters Norma, Mary, Lerline, Mildred and Elizabeth. She leaves behind her two sons, Buddy and wife Jeanne, Ronnie and wife Judy, brother Glenn and wife Mary and sister Kathleen. She also leaves grandchildren Paula and husband Billy, Ron and wife Kendra, Damon and wife Marcie, Charles and wife Lacy in addition to eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Dene was born on January 23, 1920 in Garrison, Texas where she developed her remarkable work ethic on the family farm picking cotton and harvesting sugar cane. After graduating from Garrison High School in 1938 where she exhibited her athletic skills in softball and basketball, she headed to the metropolis of Humble, Texas where she met Paul. After WWII ended, they were married on October 12, 1946.

In her early years in Humble, she worked at the Humble Post Office but most locals remember her in Thames Variety located on Main Street. She owned, managed and clerked the store until 1973. Upon retirement, her beautifully tendered yard was her main focus and trademark well into her golden years.

Through it all, Dene was a dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother enthusiastically supporting all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren through countless sporting events.

She was the matriarch and center of her family and will be greatly missed.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.” Proverbs 31:28
