Obituary for Edna Mary Bates

Edna Mary Bates, born September 21, 1923 in Humble, TX passed peacefully May 18, 2017, in Garrison, TX. She joyfully entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be greeted with a long awaited embrace by husband, James H. Bates and two of her three children, Jimmy Bates and Ginger Ann Clifton, as well as two of her six grandchildren, Kurt Woodrome and Houston Potetz. The celebration in Heaven also included her mother and father, all her brothers and sisters, and many other family and friends.
Edna lived in Kerens, TX during the very early years and returned to Humble in 1948. Many long time residents of Humble remember her as the sweet lady who collected for her brother Red’s garbage service, Red Jones Enterprises. Others may remember her as a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Humble. However, we remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and loyal friend. She would always have a meal prepared for visiting family and friends that almost always included homemade french fries.
After retirement she and her husband moved to Center, TX and enjoyed their days buying and selling antiques and listening to the Swap Shop on the local radio. They developed many life-long friends and although most of her family would consider her strict, she loved very deeply and never gave up on that love.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Sue Bradshaw; four grandchildren, Misty Ruben, Heath Woodrome, Tobie Jo Baker and Shane Bradshaw; twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to make a special mention to the many angels who cared for her daily at Garrison Nursing Home. Your compassion and tenderness are much appreciated.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017, at Rosewood Memorial Park, 2602 South Houston Ave., Humble, TX 77396.
