Obituary for
Emilia Vergara Veloso
Emilia Vergara Veloso, 79, found her eternal resting place on August 16th, 2017 after an enduring battle with Leukemia. Medy was born in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines on May 28, 1938. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Following her degree, she opened a small pharmacy in her hometown where she touched the lives of many people. To expand her career in the medical field, she chose to come to the United States as an exchange student in Massachusetts, eventually landing a job as a medical technologist until her retirement at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Ollie Veloso; their two daughters, Maria Christina Bigalbal (m. Arturo), Cecilia Brion (m. Voltaire), and only son Carl Veloso (m. Alisha). Medy also leaves behind six grandchildren, Maria Canales, Alexis Bigalbal, Chazz Brion, Jax Brion, Jade Brion, and Caleb Veloso; her three sisters, Prima Vergara Bandelaria, Aurora Vergara Katigbak, Julita Vergara; and two brothers Gaudencio Vergara and Antonio Vergara.
Emilia was a devoted Catholic and mother to all. When she was not busy helping to improve the welfare of others, she channeled her charm and grace through gardening and traveling. Her love was felt by all — from friends and family members, people she met while traveling, all the way through her plethora of plants and flowers as they bloomed beautifully, just like her.
The family is particularly grateful for the exceptional care provided by the MD Anderson Cancer Center Leukemia Team for their unmatched compassion, skills, and intellect. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredible amount of support given by extended family and lifelong friends during this eight-month journey.
The celebration of her life will be on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Home, 17404 West Lake Houston Parkway Humble, TX 77346. Followed by a memorial service on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 527 South Houston Ave. Humble, TX 77338.
