Obituary for Michael Albert Rogers

Michael was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England on April 26, 1927. He was a King Scout (same as Eagle Scout). Mike served as an Officer in His Majesty’s Service in the British Royal Navy during WWII. He was stationed on minesweepers in the Eastern North Atlantic & North Sea. After being de-mobbed he attended Queen Mary College, University of London graduating in 1952 with a degree in Petroleum Geology. He emigrated to Canada to find work. He eventually became Senior Vice President, Operations for Pan Canadian Petroleum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Mike met Margaret at a business meeting in Dallas. They were married in the Presbyterian Church in Humble, Texas in 1977 in a small ceremony with close friends and family. Their only child together is Christopher Martin Rogers, who has a son named Elliot Michael Rogers. Mike helped raise two step sons, Kenneth Robert Skillern, Jr. and Kevin Patrick Skillern. His older family resides in Canada.

Mike was a good, honorable man, a loving father and a devoted husband. He reached 90 years of age in April and was honored by all three sons and their families, including 9 grandchildren. We remember him with love and affection.

Mike died of the results of an accidental fall while walking in his backyard looking at his plants and flowers. He loved gardening. Mike did not wish to have a ceremony of any kind so in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Mercer Society, which helps fund the operation of the Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens in Precinct #4. Mike was cremated at the Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, Texas. His ashes will go to his son Christopher to dispose of as he sees fit.
