Charles Houston Cunningham was born February 27th 1954 in Glen Dale, West Virginia, the second of three children, to Charles and Edna Louise Cunningham. He graduated from Triadelphia High School.
Chuck took great joy and pride in his work at various jobs that included Valley Camp Coal Company, Hydril and HEB. He thrived on the social interaction therein.
Amongst Chuck's hobbies and interests were fishing, a small collection of firearms and road trips to swimming parks with his family on weekends. The love of being on the road was also fed by an occasional trip back to the Ohio Valley to visit family and his job at Hydril, where logged many hours hauling supplies to and from Dallas for the company.
Chuck Leaves behind his son, Christopher Scott Gooch (Port Arthur, TX) and granddaughter, Kirsten Gooch (New Caney, TX) He will be missed by many.
Life Story for Charles Houston Cunningham
Chuck and HEB were like a great grilled Burger with Bacon Jam and Kandy Krisp Jalapenos on it. The perfect pair and that great feeling never seemed to diminish. Over the past 10 years I have been witness to a selling machine Chuck the “MEAL DEAL HAMMER”! I have also had the opportunity to work with Chuck side by side on many events in the community and outside the store fronts of our HEB’s. One thing I know for sure, Chuck had work ethic and passion well beyond his years. He was for years right beside me no matter what the circumstances challenged us with. Chuck built a reputation for being the destination for great food sampling and giving a lot of free stuff away. Customers often looked for Chuck and requested him when he was out for the day or week when taking time off. The relationship Chuck had was not one of a lot of personal communication but that strong voice you could hear from aisles away telling customers the deal and how much was free. Customers look forward to hearing/seeing what Chuck had today, he was a hell of a cook! I will miss that PA across the store “Grocery I need you to fill the Meal Deal, that was because he was selling it faster than they could fill it. He would call me and say can you get me some product they are not coming fast enough. He would laugh/smile and just shake his head when I would say “get after them Chuck”. Chuck was a partner you could never replace much like Daisy his counterpart we lost a couple years ago to a heart condition. The connection to myself and the customers is one that will not be duplicated. I forever will remember Chuck my HEB partner and Friend! I hope him and Daisy are going Fishing soon, they both loved to talk about fishing so she will be happy he is there with her and I am sure she greeted him.
