Sammie Lee Curtis
Sammie Lee Curtis was born August 8, 1929 in Shiro, TX to James W. Curtis and Emma Dean Moore. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Shiro, TX. Sammie Was a 1947 graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Navasoda, Texas.
He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 as a mechanic.
On December 8, 1956, Sammie was united in Holy Matrimony to Emma Jean Wilson of Oxford, Alabama.
In his later years, he joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member under the present leadership of Pastor John L. King. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who played tennis, enjoyed bowling and had a deep passion for fast cars, drag racing and attending local racing events during his life’s journey.
He worked as an engineer at Petro-Tex Chemical Corp. for over 40 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma Curtis; two brothers, James and A.J. Curtis; and one sister, Margie Curtis-Carter.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories is his son, James M. Curtis; three daughters, Barbara A. Curtis-Berryman, Yolanda G. Curtis-Redou, and Evelyn T. Curtis-Winston; one sister, Martha E. Curtis-West; grandchildren, Tryemaine R. Curtis, Tyree D. Curtis, Jasmine C. Curtis, Ashleigh Berryman-Burrell, Ayanna N. and Kory K. Winston; two nieces, Emma Curtis-Woods and Sarah Ross-White and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss him dearly.
