Obituary for Lorraine Bernadette Gallian (Colvin)

Lorraine Bernadette Gallian (Colvin)
Lorraine was born in the modest surroundings of her family home in Plainfield, New Jersey on July 11, 1924. She was the 3rd of 6 children born to Frank and Ruth Colvin.

Lorraine met the love of her life, Nicholas J. Gallian (Nick) when she was 16 and he was 21. He wrote her frequently while he was in the army, hoping to win her heart. Eventually, her many suitors knew they would not succeed in their pursuit of the beautiful and charming, Lorraine. Nick was her only true love. At the age of 19 she married Nick and 3 years later they were blessed with their "little Judy".

Lorraine's sweet heart and kind demeanor made her popular with her girlfriends at Mack Truck where she worked during WWII and at Judy’s school where she often volunteered.

Lorraine and Nick loved to travel. They took several trips and cruises alone or with family and friends. In 2005, Lorraine traveled to Italy with her dearest friend, Jean Gilleran. In addition, Lorraine loved visiting her granddaughter, Kristine and great-granddaughter, Maylis in Crested Butte, Colorado.

Even in her final years, Lorraine exchanged handwritten letters and cards with her family and life-long friends. Because her family and friends were so important to Lorraine, a holiday never passed without playing a song on her organ for them. A skill learned from her mother, Lorraine played the organ almost every day. Her love for music was passed to her granddaughter, Michelle, who plays the piano.

After relocating to Texas in 1996 to be near her daughter and family, Lorraine became known at Bear Branch Elementary, Stacey's Dance Studio, and at Girl Scouts as "Ashley's Grandma.... Miss Lorraine " because she attended nearly all of her great-granddaughter's activities.

Lorraine lived life to the fullest and appreciated everything she had. Even in her extreme pain and suffering she was kind to everyone and a pleasure to be around. In her final days, she prayed she would close her eyes and wake up beside her beloved husband, Nick, in heaven.

Her family will miss her dearly, but is comforted knowing that she is peacefully reunited with Nick and the Lord.
