Obituary for A.G. "Pete" Hinojosa

A.G. "Pete" Hinojosa
A.G. “Pete” Hinojosa, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 17th. A family man before all else, Pete Hinojosa is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jacquelyn, daughters Tonya, Jacka, Alicia, son Pete Jr., their spouses, and 13 grandchildren.

Pete was born to parents A.D. Hinojosa and Blanche Cantu in Beeville, Texas. He spent his early childhood in nearby Sinton, before his parents came to Houston in 1942. Pete was a proud graduate of Jeff Davis High School, Class of ’54.

While attending University of Houston, Pete met his future wife, Jacquelyn Dailey in 1958. He graduated that year with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Hinojosa worked as a science teacher and coach, starting at Mt. Carmel HS, proceeding to Edison Jr. HS, McReynolds Jr. HS, and then to San Jacinto High School. Working summers, nights and weekends, Pete earned a M.Ed. in Administration & Supervision in 1966.

Mr. Hinojosa put down roots in Forest Cove in 1970, where he raised his family. An inspiration to many as the first in his family to graduate high school and earn a college degree, Pete’s guidance and example motivated his 4 children to all attain higher degrees.

In 1994, Pete retired from a 20+ year career in sales and management with AAA, turning his attention to civic involvement and volunteerism. He served as President of the Lake Houston Area Pachyderm Club, and as an officer in their state and national organizations. Pete had a strong bond to fellow educators, committing time and support to the Humble ISD Education Foundation, as well as the Humble Area Retired Teachers Association.

He was especially proud to serve for six terms as a Texas Silver-Haired Legislator (2002-2015) representing Harris County. Additionally, along the way he became a Texas Master Gardener and could always be found either working in his garden or giving away what he grew.

Pete Hinojosa maintained a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, to whom he commends the protection and welfare of his wife, Jacquelyn, children Tonya, Jacka, Pete Jr. and Alicia, their spouses George, Eric, Wendy and Tom, and his grandchildren Matthew, Jessica, Christopher, Katherine, Samantha, Serena, Gabriella, Jacob, Jonah, Isabella, Andrew, Samuel and Abigail.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Humble ISD Education Foundation in Pete’s memory.
