Obituary for
Frederick Ray Hobizal
Frederick (Fred) Ray Hobizal, 72, of Huffman, Texas, passed away on September 6th.
Fred was born in Port Lavaca on December 3rd, 1947 to Edward and Millie Hobizal. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1966 and began his career in construction. He married Shirley Jo Cox in the fall of 1966 and moved to Houston in 1969, 10 years later they moved to Huffman, Tx with their 4 young children.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing even if he didn’t harvest anything. To be honest it was not about the harvesting but about the quality of time he spent with those around him. He also enjoyed sharing stories with anyone that would lend an ear to listen and let me tell you he had some stories. From catching cats for $1.00 a piece just to take the love of his life to the movies, to getting shot by one of his buddies (by accident of course), to falling out a of tree one deer season day and hanging on for dear life to a gas can when their boat flipped in the bay for 24 hours until he was rescued by the Coastguard. He also loved to dance even though he had two left feet but that didn’t matter as long as they were playing his Bohemian music.
Fred was a kind and loving man to his wife, as well as an amazing father to his children. He was not an emotional man, but you knew he loved you, especially if you got the “Huh” after you said love you. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was Papa to his family and friends and of course those that were like family through the daycare.
Fred is survived by his wife Shirley of 54 years, sons David and Edward, daughters Suzanne (James) Andrukitis, Katherine (Hector) Montes, Grandsons, Michael Harper, Kyle Hobizal (Ashley McCurtain), Jacob Hobizal, Hunter Andrukitis, Heath Montes, Gavin Montes, Granddaughter’s, Mandy Harper, Hailey Andrukitis, Marissa Montes, and Great-grandsons Kolten Hobizal and Jaxon Hobizal. Brothers Eugene (Renda) Hobizal, Wesley (Linda) Hobizal, and Johnny (Cindy) Hobizal along with several other nieces’ s, nephews, and cousins.
Fred’s service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter, Texas on Saturday, September 19th at 10 am. Visitation will be Friday, September 18th from 3 – 5 pm. Burial will also be at Rosewood.
