He was preceded in death by his father, Frank England Gunnels; mother, Texas Delilah Gunnels-Head; step father, George Head; sister, Wanda Gunnels; brother, Frank Gunnels; brother, Billy Gunnels; brother, Wayne Gunnels; brother, Roy Head; grandson, Dylan Shay Gunnels.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Gunnels; daughter, Theresa Britton; son, Darrell Gunnels and wife Tara; son, Daniel Gunnels and wife Rose; grandchildren, Samantha, Thomas and wife Nickie, Morgan, Rodger, Karizma, Ravin, Cameron and wife Jaylee, Wayne, and Laynee; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Brayden, Hadley, Kaesyn, Jameson, Hayden, Everett and Jameson.
He married Janice on August 3, 1969, they celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Rodger was drafted into the US Army and served 19 months in Korea. He was released with an honorable discharge.
For more than 45 years Rodger worked as an Ironworker building much of Houston and surrounding areas. One exciting fact he built the Excalibur roller coaster at Astroworld, and the Money Mint in Fort Worth, Texas.
