Obituary for Boris T. Jervis

Boris T. Jervis, 89, returned to his heavenly home on December 24, 2023. His devotion and love to his family, and his firm belief in God, gave him the strength to overcome the many challenges of life with love and peace.

Boris was born to the late, Beatriz Troya and Cristobal Jervis in Riobamba, Ecuador on July 29, 1934. Upon graduating from La Salle College, Boris immigrated to the United States. His plane landed in Miami, FL on March 17, 1958. Once arriving in Florida, he then traveled by bus to Los Angeles, CA where he began working in the manufacturing industry, retiring in 2001.

As a loving and devoted father, Boris raised his children, David and Denise, from a previous marriage to Martha Eugenia Scott, with faith, love, compassion, discipline, wisdom, and humility. From the very
beginning, Boris taught his children to live life, as he had, from the heart.

On November 22, 1995, in Manta, Ecuador, Boris married his best friend, Ita Luna Jervis. Their twenty-nine years together, although not long enough, were filled with love, laughter, dancing, singing, traveling, talking about life, and never-ending a day without saying “I Love You.” Boris made Ita’s days go quickly, smoothly, securely, and always filled with much love for his “Mijita”.  He was a devoted, loyal, and loving
husband, father, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, who will be truly missed beyond words.

Boris could see the silver lining and solution to life’s obstacles.  As a businessman, he always had prudence when making decisions. As a boss, he was tolerant, respectful, generous, and appreciated by his
subordinates. As a friend, an incomparable human being, he always acted fully, from the perspective of doing good without looking at who. As a neighbor, concerned about the constant improvements of a good
life, kind and affable in his gestures and words.

Boris was an educator who used his compassionate heart to open the Castor Ecuatoriana School for children to pursue their educational dreams and extended that offer to his employees. After his business retirement, he worked in Houston as a Spanish language teacher, enjoying the trust and friendship of his students among young and old adults.

As a man and human being, perhaps with his imperfections, he learned to value each day of his life, communicating, creating, and having the awareness that the important thing is to move forward and forgive, to act without harm, on a path whose only light was faith. A man with an exceptional sense of humor, but also a man who acted with honesty, integrity, firmness, and justice.

Boris had many interests in life, among them; poetry, history, math, art, geography, classical music,
storytelling, coastal and highland foods, driving, outdoors, and world peace. He also enjoyed sports; bowling,
swimming, biking, mountain climbing, walking, chess, and racing motorcycles in the Baja 1000. His creativity, talent, and sportsmanship brought him many awards, trophies, and even a patent for the Polaris Automatic Pool Cleaner. However, Boris’ greatest love was to tinker and work around the house making sure everything was organized and well taken care of because his family’s needs were always the priority.

Boris is survived by his wife, Ita; his daughter Martha Denise Jervis Scott; his grandchildren David Andres, Melissa Jervis Cevallos, Erick, Joshua, and Liam Jervis Medranda, Adrian Jervis, and Gustavo Delgado Jervis; and his brothers, Mario, Fausto, Luis Fernando and sisters, Jenny Davila, and Maria Augusta Wagner.  He is preceded in death by his son, Boris David Jervis, brothers: Oswaldo Jervis, Patricio Jervis, and Edwin Jervis, sister; Laura Jervis Viteri; and his parents.

A private service and burial will be held for Boris on Wednesday, January 03, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Jesse Faye Fields Chapel, 7908 Rankin Road, Humble, TX 77396.

“The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.” Psalm 23

Salmo 23
