Obituary for
Evelyn Joan Fontenette (Floyd)
Evelyn Floyd Fontenette died Monday, February 26, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston’s Medical Center at the age of 71.
Mrs. Fontenette was born in Vicksburg, MS in 1952 to her parents Henry and Evelyn Floyd. She attended primary and secondary school there in Vicksburg prior to attending and graduating from the University of Mississippi earning an Accounting Degree. After which she went to work for ExxonMobil for 19 years until she left to become a full-time mom, homemaker and friend to all. She was an avid seamstress, cook, baker and ice cream maker. She loved and cherished life to the fullest and made everyone in her presence seem a little taller, a little happier and a little more confident about themselves and life. For that she will be dearly missed. She was member St. Mary Magdelene Catholic church since 1994.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry J. Floyd Sr. and mother, Evelyn J. Floyd.
She is survived by her husband Lionel M. Fontenette and three children, Lauren M. Fontenette of Houston, Texas, Elliott F. Fontenette and his wife Stacee Millangue Fontenette of Austin, Texas, Rebecca D. Fontenette of New Orleans, Louisiana and one grandchild, Lionel Clark Fontenette.
Services will commence with a wake from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. March 8 at the Rosewood Funeral Home at 17404 West Lake Houston Parkway with the rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. The burial mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 9 at St. Mary Magdalene’s Catholic Church at 527 S. Houston Ave. in Humble, Texas. A burial will follow at the Rosewood Cemetery at 2602 South Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas with the Rosewood Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers will be her son Elliott Fontenette, her brothers-in-laws Darrell Bunch, Leander Fontenette and Michael J. Stirgus, her nephews Dominic Bunch, Michael Stirgus, Warren Stirgus and her husband’s cousin Byron Washington.
In honor of Mrs. Fontenette, who bravely battled the consequences of sarcoidosis, the Family requests that the public donate to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research at https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/.donate/ instead of sending flowers. These donations will contribute to vital research to help better understand and treat this illness.
