Paul Gannon Downey
Mr. Paul G. Downey Jr. died peacefully on February 28, 2017, in Humble, Texas at the age of 77.
Paul is survived by his wife Lois; children, Sean and his fiancée, Teri; Michele and her husband, Bodie; grandchildren Gannon and Lily Nash; and sister Blake. His father Paul G. Downey Sr., mother Elizabeth and his brother Michael precede him in death.
Paul was born on July 9, 1939, in New York, New York to Paul and Elizabeth Downey. He graduated from Northeastern in 1962 and obtained a Master in Business from Golden Gate University in 1974. He served in the Army from 1963 to 1968, with time in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He married Lois, his college sweetheart in 1964. Paul began working for Shell Oil as a logistics manager where he completed a successful 35-year career. His children remember him as a kind and driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Paul was accomplished at photography, gardening and outdoorsmen ship, often leading birding expeditions throughout the West. He was also a master gardener and level 3 yoga enthusiast. He also enjoyed traveling the world learning about cultures with his wife Lois. He was a generous individual who loved teaching and who was passionate about educating himself and others. He shared his lifetime passion for baseball and the Boston Red Sox’s with his friends and family.
He was an active and dedicated member of the Photography Club of the Woodlands, Yoga Studio of The Woodlands and Lake Houston Garden Club, and often volunteered at the local community college where he taught the History of WW1 and the Irish in America.
A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter, TX on Saturday, March 11th at 2 PM. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Lone Star College Scholarship Fund where he taught history. www.lonestar.edu/giving/donate.htm
